Nandurbar, Maharashtra – As the chill of winter settles in, the much-anticipated strawberry season has finally arrived in local markets. Fresh, bright red strawberries from renowned growing regions like Mahabaleshwar and Dhad (Akkalkuwa taluka) are now in full supply, bringing a burst of tangy sweetness to the delight of fruit lovers.
A Late Start to the Season
Though strawberry season typically peaks from November to January, this year’s harvest faced a slight delay due to unseasonal rains, pushing back the start of the season by nearly 15 days. Despite this setback, favorable weather conditions have ensured good yields, and the quality of the fruit remains high, according to local vendors.
Varieties and Rising Demand
Local markets are now stocked with some of the most popular strawberry varieties, including Winter Dawn, Melinsa, M2, S1, and R1. These varieties are known for their vibrant appearance and sweet taste, making them particularly sought after by consumers.
“The demand for strawberries is strong this year, and customers are happy with the availability and quality,” says a vendor in Nandurbar main market. The popularity of the fruit is evident, with customers flocking to purchase the fresh harvest.
Prices and Future Expectations
Strawberries are currently priced at ₹50 for a 200-gram box and ₹200 per kilogram. As the season progresses and more fruits make their way into the markets, prices are expected to drop, offering even more affordability to consumers.
Other Winter Fruits on the Rise
In addition to strawberries, the market is also seeing an uptick in supplies of other winter fruits such as guavas, custard apples, and pomegranates. These fruits are gaining traction among health-conscious shoppers who appreciate their nutritional benefits.
As the season continues, strawberries are set to maintain their position as the queen of winter fruits, offering a refreshing and delicious treat during the colder months.
