OBC Students to Benefit from 54 New Hostel Facilities across Maharashtra

Mumbai, India –In a major development, the Maharashtra state government has announced the inauguration of 54 new hostels for Other Backward Class (OBC) students, aimed at improving access to education and supporting students in their academic pursuits. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis congratulated the Minister for Other Backward Classes Welfare, Atul Save, for the launch of these facilities, which will provide much-needed accommodation to students across the state.

According to Minister Save, out of the 72 proposed hostels for OBC students, 54 have already been completed. This includes 26 hostels for boys and 28 for girls. Additionally, 18 more hostels are scheduled to open by the end of June 2025. Save assured that efforts are underway to ensure that all hostels are self-owned, helping to reduce dependency on rental properties.

Furthermore, the Maharashtra government has taken steps to streamline the scholarship process for OBC students. The financial assistance will now be directly transferred to students’ bank accounts, ensuring faster and more efficient distribution. While there were some delays this year due to issues with bank accounts, the government plans to resolve these issues by the next academic year.

The initiative also includes the “Gyanyogti Savitribai Phule Aadhar Yojana” for students who were unable to secure hostel accommodation. The financial support under this scheme will also be directly credited to the students’ linked bank accounts.

With these progressive measures, the state government aims to foster an inclusive environment for OBC students, empowering them with better educational opportunities.
