Nandurbar News – Nandurbar municipality has been collecting waste daily through garbage trucks, ensuring that the city’s waste is efficiently processed and disposed of. The collected waste is transported to the dumping ground on Sakri Road, where it is segregated for further processing under solid waste management guidelines. A key focus of the municipality is on plastic waste segregation to minimize environmental impact.
The municipality collects waste primarily through two categories: wet and dry waste. This segregation helps simplify the recycling process at the dumping ground, speeding up further waste management steps. In the coming months, the municipality plans to produce compost from the collected waste, which will then be sold to farmers.
The designated dumping ground is located just off Sakri Road, near Dudhale Shivar. At this site, wet and dry waste are segregated into separate piles, with organic waste left to decompose naturally. However, plastic waste remains a major challenge. Out of the 40 tons of waste collected daily, approximately 20 tons consist of plastic, which requires intensive efforts for proper disposal.(Nandurbar News)
The city’s 28 garbage trucks collect an average of 40 tons of waste every day, and this number can rise to 45 tons on specific days. While the segregation process has been efficient, the municipality is concerned about citizens discarding mixed waste instead of following the wet and dry separation guidelines.
As part of future waste management plans, the municipality is exploring the possibility of producing compost from the waste collected. The compost will then be marketed to local farmers, offering a sustainable solution to the city’s waste management problem.(Nandurbar Today News)
With daily efforts to improve waste segregation and processing, Nandurbar aims to handle its growing waste volumes more efficiently while promoting a cleaner, greener environment.
