Faster Mumbai to Goa Route: NHAI Plans 30 km Expressway

In a historic move, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced plans for a new expressway designed to reduce travel time between Mumbai and Goa. The 30-km route will connect Pagote near Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) to the Chowk Junction on the old Pune highway.

The project is expected to cost ₹3,000 crore and will take approximately 30 months to complete. According to NHAI Regional Manager Anshumali Srivastava, the new expressway will enable commuters to travel from the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, also known as Atal Setu, to the Goa highway in just 30 minutes. This will reduce the total Mumbai-Goa journey by about half an hour, significantly improving travel efficiency.

The expressway will be connected to several major highways, including the Uran Chirner Highway, the Goa Highway, and the Pune Expressway. Additionally, it will connect major infrastructure corridors like the Alibaug-Virar Multi-Modal Corridor, Murbad-Junnar Highway, Nashik Highway, and Samruddhi Highway.

This development is expected to boost tourism, ease logistics, and boost economic development in the region. The expressway will solve the long-standing problems of traffic congestion and delayed travel.

Once construction begins, the project is expected to transform Mumbai-Goa connectivity, enhance regional infrastructure, and pave the way for future economic opportunities. With its strategic alignment and time-saving potential, the expressway is set to become a pillar of Maharashtra’s road network.
