Mumbai Police Arrest 81 Bangladeshi Nationals in First 10 Days of 2025

Mumbai: Amid growing political instability in Bangladesh and rising attacks on the Hindu community there, the political climate in India has become more sensitive. As a result, a significant number of Bangladeshi nationals have been attempting to illegally enter India, prompting Mumbai police to launch a special campaign. In just the first 10 days of 2025, Mumbai police have arrested 81 Bangladeshi nationals. Over the past three years, more than 900 Bangladeshi nationals have been apprehended in Mumbai.

Mumbai police have been running special operations targeting illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, with 304 such arrests made in 2024 alone. This follows the arrest of 376 Bangladeshi nationals in 2023. During these operations, police discovered that many of the arrested individuals had forged documents, including Indian Aadhaar cards and passports. In total, Mumbai police have arrested 903 Bangladeshi nationals in the last three years, but only 222 of them have been deported back to Bangladesh due to the lengthy judicial process.

n the to begin with 10 days of 2025, Mumbai police have captured 81 Bangladeshi nationals, counting 52 men and 19 ladies. As of presently, 52 criminal cases have been enlisted in association with these captures. The investigation revealed that many of these Bangladeshi nationals had illegally accessed government schemes and engaged in unlawful transactions through their bank accounts. Furthermore, some of them, after settling in India, have been involved in aiding other illegal Bangladeshi immigrants to establish themselves in the country.

In response to these illegal activities, the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has initiated a crackdown on the entire network of individuals providing fraudulent documents and assistance to Bangladeshi infiltrators. As part of this effort, the police have begun issuing notices to banks to freeze accounts of the suspected Bangladeshi nationals. They are also working with relevant departments to cancel fraudulent Indian ration cards and driver’s licenses linked to these individuals.

The authorities are determined to limit the stay of Bangladeshi infiltrators in India by taking strict action against the entire network, including those who aid them. This ongoing operation aims to dismantle the illegal infrastructure facilitating such infiltrations and ensure that illegal Bangladeshi nationals are swiftly deported.
