Devotees throng the Tapi River for a holy dip on Makar Sankranti.

Prakasha News – Thousands of devotees thronged the holy Tapi river in Prakasha, also known as “Dakshin Kashi”, to take a holy dip on the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti. After the ritual bath, devotees offered prayers at the Kedareshwar, Kashi Vishweshwar, and Pushpadanteshwar temples.

Pilgrims from Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh thronged the Tapi river early in the morning to mark the Sun’s transition into Capricorn. The holy dip is believed to bring spiritual blessings, especially for those who could not attend the grand Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj.

Long queues of devotees formed at temple complexes including Kashi Vishweshwar Mahadev, Sangameshwar, and Pushpadanteshwar. The Triveni Sangam near the Sangameshwar Mahadev temple became the focal point, with pilgrims performing religious rituals and enjoying the festive atmosphere.

The local trustees of the Kedareshwar temple ensured a smooth experience for devotees, providing facilities like parking and crowd management. The temple and its surroundings were decorated with decorative elements, giving the event a festive, pilgrimage-like atmosphere.

Vendors selling traditional puja items, sweets, and other items were lined up in the temple premises, creating a lively atmosphere in the market. The atmosphere was filled with the aroma of mantras and offerings.

The annual tradition of taking a dip in the Tapi river during Makar Sankranti is a reflection of the royal bath at Prayagraj’s Kumbh Mela, making Prakash an important pilgrimage destination for devotees seeking spiritual blessings and cultural enrichment.
