March 18, 2025 – A delegation from the Association of the United College Teachers, Punjab and Chandigarh (AUCT) met with Professor Karamjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), on Monday to address a series of unresolved issues impacting educators at higher education institutions affiliated with the university.
Professor Jaspal Singh, General Secretary of AUCT, and Professor Tarun Ghai, spokesperson for the association, presented a detailed demand letter urging immediate action on multiple pressing concerns.
The primary focus of the discussion was the long-pending implementation of the 7th Pay Commission for teachers working in unaided posts within GNDU-affiliated colleges. “We have made repeated requests for the teachers to receive salaries in accordance with the 7th Pay Commission,” said Professor Ghai.
In addition to salary issues, the delegation highlighted the non-compliance of several colleges regarding the provident fund (PF) contributions, which were not being implemented according to UGC or university guidelines. Professors urged the VC to take stringent action against the defiant institutions and ensure that the PF issue is rectified without further delay.
Another pressing issue discussed was the delay in promotions under the Career Advancement Scheme (CAS). The delegation appealed for a streamlined, time-bound process to ensure that teachers remain motivated and recognized for their hard work and dedication.
The AUCT leaders emphasized the importance of addressing these issues promptly, given that teachers depend on these benefits for their professional and financial well-being, especially after retirement.
