GBS Alert in Nandurbar: 5 Things You Need to Know About This Mysterious Disease”

NANDURBAR, February 7, 2025 —Health authorities in Maharashtra’s Nandurbar district have declared a high alert following the detection of the first confirmed case of Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS), a rare autoimmune disorder, in an 11-year-old girl from Akkalkuwa taluka. The patient is currently under intensive care at the Government Medical College Hospital, where officials have allocated 28 ventilated beds, including four pediatric units, to manage potential cases.

District Collector Dr. Mittali Sethi confirmed the case after receiving positive lab reports on Wednesday, urging residents to avoid panic while emphasizing vigilance.  We request citizens to report unusual symptoms immediately and refrain from spreading misinformation,” she stated.

Proactive measures include water sample testing in affected villages, public awareness campaigns in local dialects, and mobilizing ASHA workers to combat rumors. The patient’s condition has stabilized, with health teams monitoring her progress closely.

Authorities have established dedicated GBS screening wards and issued guidelines to healthcare providers. “We are prepared to handle any escalation,” assured Dr. Rajesh Patil, Nandurbar’s Chief Medical Officer.
