The ongoing disruption of regular flight services from Chipi Airport has sparked a heated political exchange, with leaders from different parties throwing sharp remarks at each other. Former Shiv Sena MLA Vaibhav Naik recently warned that if the airport’s flight services are not resumed, he would be forced to lock the airport. This statement caught the attention of BJP leader and Member of Parliament Narayan Rane, who aggressively responded at the closing ceremony of the Kankavli Tourism Festival. Rane, addressing Naik directly, challenged him to lock the airport and stated, “If you haven’t locked your own house, I will not utter Narayan Rane’s name.”
The exchange between Rane and Naik highlights the growing political tensions between the Shiv Sena and BJP in the region, with the airport issue fueling their public feud.
The dispute revolves around the irregularity of flight services from Chipi Airport, which has caused significant inconvenience to local residents and tourists traveling from Mumbai and other areas. Locals have been raising concerns over the lack of consistent flight services, with many urging for the resumption of regular flights. Vaibhav Naik has even hinted at launching a protest if the issue remains unresolved.
Rane, however, took an assertive stance in response to Naik’s threats. Speaking at the event, Rane stated, “When we were in power, there were opponents who criticized this airport. The Chipi airport, which has been temporarily shut for technical reasons, will be operational soon.” He also warned against threats to lock the airport, urging the police to file criminal charges against anyone making such statements. “We have power at both the state and central levels,” Rane emphasized.
The dispute has drawn attention not only to the political dynamics between the two parties but also to the pressing issue of Chipi Airport’s operational status. The airport’s closure has become a focal point for the local population, who are eager for the resumption of air services that are vital for tourism and daily commuting.
As tensions rise, the future of Chipi Airport’s flight services remains uncertain, with the public eagerly awaiting resolution.
